THE ART
OF SEEING

THE INVISIBLE

Dara A.L. Coope

Senior Vice President - General Counsel
“Leasing shouldn’t be a battle, but a peaceful negotiation, with both sides striving toward the same goal. It’s not about playing ‘gotcha’ or winning the battle but losing the war. At the end of the day, everyone should walk away with a smile on his or her face.”

Dara A.L. Coope joined Treeline with more than a decade of legal experience and a keen understanding of the art of making a deal. What she finds common in both is how you conduct yourself when it comes to both the spirit and the letter of the laws that govern each.

“I’m not your typical adversarial attorney. My goal is to make both Treeline and our potential tenant happy. If the deal does become adversarial, I’m much more of a ‘kill them with kindness’ type of person. Leasing should be a peaceful negotiation, with both sides striving toward the same goal. It’s not about playing ‘gotcha’ or arguing just to hear myself talk or winning the battle but losing the war. At the end of the day, I want everyone to walk away with a smile on his or her face,” she says.

Dara believes what makes her better is the desire to provide tenants with a fair deal in a building they’ll be proud to call their home away from home. “The thing I love most about real estate law is that both parties are working to accomplish the same thing. When I do my job well, both Treeline and the tenant will not only be satisfied with the transaction, but also excited about their future relationship. This isn’t true about many other areas of legal practice.”

Dara graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a B.S. in Business Administration, graduating cum laude with a concentration in Management Information Systems. She earned her J.D. cum laude from St. John’s University School of Law and was a member of the St. John’s Law Review. Dara has been admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. She joined Treeline in 2006 as Vice President and General Counsel and is now responsible for all legal matters regarding leasing, financing and corporate needs. An avid golfer, Dara is a charter member of the Executive Women’s Golf Association, Long Island Chapter. She lives in New Hyde Park with her husband and three children.
